The painting and decorating course allows you to develop your creative and practical skills to build a career in this diverse and dynamic field. In the five years through November 2019, the number of openings for painting professionals was above average.
Professionals in this field apply paints, varnishes, wallpaper, and other finishes to protect, maintain, and decorate the surfaces of buildings and structures. You can work with painting and decorating on both residential and commercial projects.
This course focuses on the foundational skills you need to succeed in the industry.
During classes, students will:
- Learn color matching techniques
- Working with wallpaper application
- Learn how to apply special coatings and finishes
- Study surface preparation techniques
- Understand different types of wood finishes and coatings
- Study workplace safety standards
- Learn to read blueprints and make cost estimates, among other internal and external applications

Requirements
1) Minimum age: Students must be at least 18 years old.
2) Academic requirement: Have completed the equivalent of Australian Year 10 (primary/secondary education) in the country of origin.
3) Proof of English proficiency:
- It is necessary to present a recognized test such as IELTS, PTE, among others.
- Example: IELTS with a minimum overall score of 6.0, with no band below 5.5 (or equivalent).
- The result must be valid (taken within the last 2 years) at the time of visa application.
- Some educational institutions offer an in-house English test that can be taken to meet the language requirement.
Exemptions:
You are a citizen and hold a passport of the UK, US, Canada, New Zealand or Ireland.
Are enrolled in a major course that is a registered school course, an ELICOS (intensive English course), a course taught in another language, or a postgraduate research course.
Have studied for at least 5 years in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa or Ireland.
