A career as a chef can be very rewarding and offers skills that can be used in different parts of the world, in different contexts.


Australia has a rich culinary scene, with diverse multicultural influences. It's an excellent place to become a chef, due to the high industry standards and the quality of ingredients used in Australian cuisine.



During the course, students learn to lead kitchen teams, identify and resolve operational and service issues, organize dish production, plan workflow, deal with legal issues, and create, prepare, and calculate the costs of their own menu.



The course includes:

  • Preparing dishes with meat, poultry and seafood
  • Make broths, soups and sauces
  • Maintain the quality of perishable foods
  • Learn safe food handling practices
  • Prepare foods for special diets
  • Control finances within budget
  • Apply and monitor sustainable practices at work
  • Plan menus for different events and occasions

    Duration: 12 to 24 months

    Price: $10,000 to $15,000 per year

  • Requirements

    1) You must have completed high school (Year 12) in your home country.


    2) Must be willing to do a 360-hour practical internship.


    3) It is mandatory to present proof of your English level.


    • Accepted tests: IELTS, PTE, among others.

    • Example: IELTS with a minimum overall score of 6.0, and no band below 5.5 (or equivalent).

    • The test must be valid (taken within the last 2 years) at the time of visa application.

    • Some educational institutions offer an in-house English test (taken at the school itself) that can be used to prove the required level of English.

    Exemptions:

    You may be exempt from the English language requirement if:


    – are a citizen and hold a passport from the United Kingdom, USA, Canada, New Zealand or Ireland.


    – are enrolled in a major course that is a registered school course, an intensive English language course (ELICOS), a course registered to be taught in another language, or a registered postgraduate research course.


    – have studied for at least 5 years in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, United Kingdom, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa or Ireland.

    • The number of vacancies for managers has grown significantly in the last 5 years and is expected to continue growing in the future.

    • 72% of chefs work full-time, a higher number than the average in other areas of the hospitality industry

    • Chefs can work in many different roles and locations within the food and hospitality industry.

    After graduating, you can work as:


    • Chef de Cuisine (Head Chef)
    • Sous Chef (Second Chef, who assists the Head Chef)
    • Chef de Partie (Head of a specific area of the kitchen)
